Some of you are aware of my accidental map making journey. In my mid-twenties, after arriving back from a backpacking adventure overseas (and collecting quite a few illustrated maps), I looked for a similar map of Melbourne.
Long story short, there wasn’t one so I went about creating one.
During my research I came across the Wonder Map of Melbourne (circa 1934) and acquired an original folded version of this beauty.
This magical map has been sitting on my shelf (along with a LOT of other map collectables), and I often unfold it I "wonder" how life in Melbourne's CBD was back in the 30's.
Recently I found another copy of The Wonder Map advertised online for $2,000 – so I quickly shot an email off to the kids to let them know not to chuck this one out when they are clearing out my stuff!
Anyhooo, for a long time now, I’ve wanted to make a jigsaw puzzle of this map.
This process involved scanning the map I owned and having it digitally repaired to remove the fold lines and some minor tears. Next, designing the box and sending the files to the Australian manufacturers to make a sample.
Some tweaks, another sample and then said sample was delivered to our jigsaw puzzle tester, Leena.
Leena is one of my lovely customers, and not only does she live close by, but she’s a super speedy jigsaw assembler and just loves puzzles. She said this one was fantastic to assemble. The quality of the board is first class and all the pieces are a different shape which makes it enjoyable to put together.
I think you'll love this one too.
You can find it here on my website.
When I'm packing your order I’ll include an A3 poster print with each puzzle to help with assembly.
